What is the perfect paint for your garage or concrete floor? If you answered epoxy floor paint, you would be absolutely correct. Epoxy floor paint is preferred by many people because it is extremely durable and hard wearing, yet is also easy to apply. What type of epoxy floor paint products are available? Let's take a look and see --
A big manufacturer of paints is Rust-Oleum. Their Epoxy Shield is a one-part concrete floor paint. It comes in 1 gallon cans and is self priming (no separate primer must be applied first). It is extremely weather resistant and can be used just about anywhere -- both inside and outside of your home. This brand of epoxy floor paint will fully dry in seven days. List price: $73.49. You can pick it up at most any home do-it-yourself centers.
Another great epoxy floor paint is Seal Krete -- manufactured by Convenience Products. List priced at $28.88, this is a one-part, acrylic epoxy blend which has been specially formulated to resist chemicals, oil, grease, gasoline and tire stains. One can will cover approximately 300-500 square feet. You can purchase this epoxy floor paint in white, deep bass, sand, armor gray, and slate grey.
Another great epoxy floor paint is made by Top Secret Coatings -- they make a very good one-part epoxy floor paint. "One-part" means that you will not have to add a separate primer coat before you begin. This paint is renowned for its extreme durability -- it won't chalk, yellow or fade over time. It is also a waterproof floor treatment which produces a surface that is very hard and also flexible, as well as resistant to UV rays. According to the manufacturer, this epoxy floor paint is also impact resistant to 500 psi and is heat resistant to over 350°F. When used on concrete surfaces, it should last for up to 20 years. It is available in 200 stock floor paint colors, but the manufacturer will custom-mix this epoxy floor paint to your exact specifications.
But what if you are not a do-it-yourselfer? Or you are physically disabled? Then I would suggest that you head over to our fine friends at the Home Depot. They can send several knowledgeable professionals to your home to do the job for you. They have a number of different epoxy floor paint packages available, and will come right over and remove your existing floor coating (removing everything from your garage first, if necessary -- yipee!). And they will prepare the surface before applying the epoxy floor paint -- they will fill in cracks and make any needed repairs. If you want, they will even apply anti-slip additives to your epoxy floor paint to make it safer to walk on.
